As things concluded with another bunch sprint, it was Nikias Arndt that sprinted to 11th place for Team Sunweb at the Tour of Turkey stage three.
The third stage opened up with seven riders clipping ahead of the peloton in the opening 10 kilometres, quickly opening up a three minute advantage over the field. Once again it was the sprinter’s teams that controlled the race, always keeping the advantage to the riders out front in check. The remnants of the group were eventually reeled in as the gradients of the day’s final uncategorised climb began to kick in, with attacks from the the peloton later splitting the group. Mike Teunissen brought Nikias Arndt into contention for the sprint, where he took 11th place for the team in Marmaris.
Nikias said: “Today was a fast day and with seven riders up the road, the speed was a bit higher. The parcours were more demanding with more climbs, but it was a good day for us and we sat in the bunch protecting Louis and Eddie. Just before the finish there was a climb and unfortunately Eddie didn’t make it over. We waited with Johannes and Mike for them to get back on but they didn’t make it, so we switched tactic and went for me in the sprint. I tried my best but my position wasn’t the best so I didn’t come into it. The legs were still good, as were Louis’, so we are looking forward to tomorrows GC day.”
