Robert Power

Initially a rugby player, Rob broke his knee as a 15-year-old. Side-lined and facing rehabilitation, he started cycling and soon started riding at the local velodrome. After making the national team and racing the world championships as a junior, finishing 19th, he progressed through the ranks.

Signing for Team Sunweb this season after three years as a professional rider, the-23-year-old hopes to bed himself in with the team.

“I want to get to know the guys and get some experience. There is a really good group here and I’m ready to learn as much as I can. The team has always looked really organised and professional, and there is a real positive vibe.

“I love climbing and big days on the bike get my really excited. I need more years of learning now and experience riding in the peloton.”

A rider favouring both one-day races and short stage races, Rob won the Japan Cup Cycle Road Race last season and finished sixth in a brutal Strade Bianche.  He has also won the youth classification in the Herald Sun tour and finished second in Tour de l’Avenir as an U23.

Sociable, laidback, and open-minded, the Perth native enjoys travelling, learning new things and developing as a person. He has hiked through Switzerland, enjoys going to the beach and hanging out with friends. Rob also has some musical talents; he played the drums at school and was in a band.
