In his seventh season with Team Sunweb, Nikias now sees the team as one big “family”.
He joined when he was just 21 years old, and in that time has amassed personal victories and been part of great team success. Having signed a contract until 2020, Nikias is very much at home with the German team.
“The team inspires you to never give up, to challenge yourself and the team around you, and keep fighting and improving.”
Nikias is an all-rounder, from climbing and time-trialling to being a lead-out rider, and always tries to do everything he can for the team – “Most of the time I succeed!” – as well as picking up personal victories at the 2017 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, a stage of the 2016 Giro d’Italia, the 2015 Tour of Alberta and the 2014 Criterium du Dauphine.
A sociable, funny guy, with a good sense of humour, the 27-year-old German first started riding after seeing his local club riding out together. He asked to join and before long was asked to start racing too.
Off the bike, Nikias enjoys spending time with friends he can’t see on the road whilst training and racing, as well as being with his support network – his girlfriend and family.
