2019 was the epitome of a year of two halves for Martijn. He suffered from a terrible crash in Paris-Nice before recovering from his injuries and returning to racing, completing the Vuelta and finishing the year with a tenth place on GC at the Gree-Tour of Guangxi. The injury was a tough period for Martijn but it only made him stronger and increased his desire to ride his bike.
Quiet and thoughtful, Martijn is thankful for the opportunity to ride his bike as a profession but the Dutchman does not rest on his laurels.
Into his third year with the team, Martijn has shown to be an adept rider and a great team player, always willing to work for others. He also likes the way the team is set-up and structured, something that he says suits him perfectly.
Looking ahead, Martijn wants to continue his development as a GC support rider and aims at taking to the start of the Vuelta again as in 2020 it begins in his hometown of Utrecht.
