Cycling was a family affair for Lennard, with both his father and brother riding, inspiring the 22-year-old to turn the pedals himself. He was further spurred on by German success in the Tour de France and loved watching the big stars on TV.
The supremely talented youngster has climbing and time trialling ambitions as he continues his development with Team Sunweb, although the young German is already a world silver medallist at U23 level in the time trial and secured a stage top 10 in the 2017 Vuelta a España.
Never afraid to crack a joke, the 2014 world junior time trial champion is a friendly guy and admits to being slightly forgetful… but is always ready to race hard when the moment comes. And if it’s a bad day at the office, the youngster remains optimistic. “The sun will always come up on the next day. Motivation is something that is deep inside you, and for me it’s about being at the level to compete and to win.”
Off the bike, the 2017 world TTT champion loves ice hockey and ice skating amongst other sports, as well as meeting friends and taking time out to read.
