Now in his third year as a Team Sunweb Development rider, Jarno has a stage win at Olympia’s Tour, the junior Paris-Roubaix title under his belt, and a burning desire to achieve more.
The Dutchman was inspired by his father to ride. He trained and raced, and still has his first ever bike in the garage. Jarno hopped on that bike as a child and followed in his dad’s footsteps.
An all-rounder and time-trial specialist, Jarno hopes to “make another step” to becoming one of the top U23 riders in the world, as well as testing his climbing skills, aided by the support of Development Team Sunweb.
“Over the last two years they have had fantastic results, and especially in 2017 winning the Team Time Trial at the World Championships. It’s inspiring for me to look up to – that’s where I want to be and to be so close to them is a nice experience.”
Calm under pressure and easy-going within a team, ever-competitive Jarno hopes to put the crashes of 2018 behind him and focus on long-term goals of achieving his dream of becoming a WorldTour rider.
Away from cycling, Jarno likes to relax, recover from training, hang out with friends and play guitar.
