After joining the team for the 2019 season, the former U23 European road race champion seized his opportunity, learning as much as possible in his opening season at WorldTour level.

“I would say my first year was a year of gaining experience and improving, and for sure I did that. I did a lot of the big races, like in the classics I did Roubaix and Flanders, then I did the Dauphiné and so on. It was a year of finding out what it is really like at the top level.”

Towards the end of the year Casper’s season of doing the biggest races would continue as he got the call up to start his first Grand Tour, the Vuelta a España. Like most, he hopes that doing one of the toughest races in the world has a positive effect on his performance in the coming years.

“Doing my first Grand Tour was definitely a milestone in my career. I hope it will help me step up a level yet again this year. Immediately after the Vuelta I could see that in the data that my shape was good and I became stronger. I am curious to see how that effected my winter training and if I can bring that to this season.”

Casper came into the sport almost by accident after borrowing a bike and joining his friend for a training ride with a local club. After that he soon started taking up racing, not looking back since.

An outgoing and talkative person, Casper enjoys the sociable aspect of the sport and being able to go out and train with friends, sharing experiences with them. Looking ahead in his career, Casper is motivated by competing at the biggest races in the world.

“What keeps me motivated is that I want to be able to perform at the highest level. I want to win races and be there in the finale of these really tough races. If you can do that then you’re a really good rider. The dream of being able to live from cycling also motivates me, I want to prove to the team and everyone that I can do this.”
