After joining Development Team Sunweb at the start of 2019, Ben has taken well to his opening year of racing in Europe after making the move from Canada. Finding his home away from home, he was quick to settle in and able to really focus on cycling.
Ben played a multitude of sports when he was younger, playing football to a high level in Canada, before eventually making the switch to cycling, falling in love with the sport for its “freedom and lifestyle.” It was a decision that worked well for him, as he won both the time trial and road race as a junior at the Canadian national championships in 2018, results which drew the attention of the team. Aside from the sport’s freedom, Ben also enjoys the measurability of cycling.
Motivated from his opening year with the Development program, in 2020 he wants to build his performance and continue to learn from the rest of the riders on the team. He hopes to achieve more successes together and if the opportunity arises achieve some personal results too.
Outgoing and sociable, away from the bike you can often find Ben drinking coffee and working on various small projects, spending time with family and friends, and continuing his education.
