ABOUT Louis Vervaeke

24-year-old Louis Vervaeke is one of the two new Belgian riders who will this year ride in Team Sunweb’s colours. The team recognised the potential of Vervaeke over the previous years and his addition to the team adds strength to their WorldTour roster. “It was a deliberate choice to make a career change. I was looking for a new environment to get the best out of myself. The professional structure at this team and their way of working is precisely what I need. I am thrilled to be joining this team, because their successes were brilliant last season and I’m excited to play a part of that for the coming years.”

‘Tornado Louis’ is a promising climber with versatile qualities. He will bring crucial support to strengthen the team’s general classification squad, whilst also getting the space to take steps of development in this area himself. “In the mountains I want to be of added value and hope to learn a lot from the current GC riders in the team. After a year with bad luck, my first aim will be to come back up to my previous level, then I hope to show my full potential.”

When he was younger, Louis managed to combine cycling with playing tennis. With a long dual between the two, eventually his love for cycling won. Since then Vervaeke has taken some impressive results. Among his best are a GC win at the Tour des Pays Savoie in 2015, a sprint classification victory at the 2016 Tour de Basque and the completion of his first Grand Tour at the Vuelta a España that same year.

Louis is eagerly looking forward to riding the Ardenne Classics and supporting the GC-riders. Winning a Grand Tour is a dream he hopes one day to come true.

In his spare time, you can find this Belgian playing with friends on the PlayStation or reading books. One day he would also like to do a degree, but for now – it’s all about cycling!
