ABOUT Lennard Hofstede

22-year-old Lennard Hofstede has turned his favourite hobby into his profession and he’s motivated to make the most of his career. “Living as a cyclist gives me freedom. I like training, traveling to races, competing and being part of the team. I’m grateful for every race I ride.”

This young Dutchman is a very versatile rider and has already demonstrated his strong capabilities whilst riding in the mountains. Whilst riding his Grand Tour debut at the 2017 Vuelta a España, Hofstede was forced to abandon due to illness. “It is every young boys dream to ride their first Grand Tour. My legs felt strong before I fell ill, so I know that I could have done lots of work for the team during the second half of the Vuelta. One minute you’re riding strong and the next you’re on your way home and not part of the team anymore. That was quite hard.”

After the Vuelta, Hofstede was optimistic and set new goals whilst restarting training again in Holland. His determination paid off and he surprised himself by taking strong results during hard stages of the Tour of Denmark. “It’s a great feeling to leave the big guns behind you and continue to take a good result. These moments teach me a lot, for example, never to hesitate in the final metres of a race. The second you decide to go, you must give everything you have, even if the finish line is still far away.”

"Never hesitate, just go."
