ABOUT Joris Nieuwenhuis

2017 was Joris Nieuwenhuis’ most successful season to date and after taking a bundle of wins throughout the year, he topped his palmares off with the U23 cyclo-cross world champion title. “It was always my dream. I knew it was achievable but after so many years of being so close, I didn’t expect it whatsoever.” After a stellar performance in the U23 category Joris’ next step is to focus on his development in the cyclo-cross elite category.

Away from the mud, Joris is full of ambition and hungry to develop as a road rider. “I want to show that I’m capable of riding on a high-level so that I can make the next step up to the WorldTour. If I train good and really live for it I’m confident I’ll succeed.”

Nieuwenhuis’ bike gives him the freedom to explore, something he loves most about cycling. Discovering new roads and riding in new areas are his favourite way to pass time. “Time goes so fast when you’re in a new area and you can see things you wouldn’t have seen if you weren’t on your bike.”

As well as the elite cyclo-cross world championships victory, Joris has his sights set on the cobblestones of Paris-Roubaix. As close as it gets to cyclo-cross whilst riding on the road, he describes the one-day classic as the “ultimate”.

With his sights set high and his determination to develop as high as ever, 2018 can only be another step in the right direction for Joris to achieve his dreams.
