ABOUT Chris Hamilton

Chris Hamilton, the 22-year-old former mountain biker, first showed his talent to the world in 2016 when he raced as a non-professional to 14th overall at the Tour Down Under. Not long after this, he signed a contract with Team Sunweb for the upcoming season.

Last year Hamilton completed the Vuelta a España working to support Wilco Kelderman’s GC ambitions. “It was my first Grand Tour and a really cool experience to ride three weeks in a row. The Vuelta made me mentally and physically stronger and now I can handle training at a much higher intensity.”

Chris still doesn’t know where his limits are, but he’s eager to discover his capabilities. This year he wants to improve his tactics and positioning in the bunch which he knows will be a mental challenge. “I am a very relaxed person and I like being in stress-free environments. For me it initially felt quite unnatural to be in the middle of the hectic bunch in the WorldTour races, but as time passes I feel more and more comfortable in the bunch. In every race, I fight for a better position, even when my mind is saying something completely different.”
