After a strong showing at Umag Trophy on Wednesday where Niklas Märkl took third place, the team were back in action today for the Porec Trophy. A hilly circuit awaited the bunch and with numerous opportunities to attack, it was set to be a fast and aggressive day of riding.
A two rider breakaway eventually formed after lots of attacks and the race settled into a rhythm. However, the duo were only allowed a gap of just over two minutes and with 55 kilometres to go the race was back together.
More attacks followed yet again but with nothing able to stick, attention soon turned to the sprint finish. The team worked well to move Märkl up ahead of the finish but came to the front too early on the long uphill drag to the line in what was a headwind, and were ultimately swamped by the other teams. In the sprint, it was Leon Heinschke who was first home for the team in seventh place, with Märkl not far behind in tenth.
