Development Team Sunweb’s Max Kanter sprinted to 2nd place at Olympia’s Tour stage 3 today, after a late attacker just made it to the line by a number of metres.
After a long fight for the break, a three man breakaway went away after 60 kilometres of fast racing had been covered. Their gap quickly stretched out to six minutes, before the peloton launched their chase in pursuit of the escapees.
After 10 kilometres of a complete pack, an attacker went clear with another later joining to open up a 30 second advantage over the Development Team Sunweb lead field. A furious chase was launched whilst it looked like things would come together, one man just stayed clear to take the stage victory with German champion Max Kanter finishing the day in 2nd place. He retains his lead in the points classification.
Max said: “At the beginning there was a lot of attacks, but we managed to let a good group go away. The guys kept me in a good position and Jarno was chasing in the front. On the final lap there was two small climbs, two guys jumped away on the last lap and one of them made it to the finish. Joris, Martin, Leon and Niklas brought me in a good position and I could win the bunch sprint. At the end it was a second place which we can happy about.”
