The final day of racing at the Giro Rosa saw yet another attacking display of cycling. With only one categorised climb on the route, it was a fast day in the saddle with numerous teams and riders wanting to get clear and fight for the stage win from the breakaway. Leah Kirchmann and Floortje Mackaij were active at the head of the race and both were involved in attacks but they were never allowed any leeway by the peloton.
A duo did manage to get clear but everything was back together as the peloton took on the final categorised climb of the race. The bunch thinned out on the short ascent and the team worked well to keep Lucinda Brand positioned near the front of the peloton. Over the top of the climb there was some disorganisation in the bunch and a solo rider attacked, quickly gaining a gap of over 20 seconds. However, the peloton soon began to chase and going into the tricky uphill finale the race was back together.
The short but steep climb to the line was certainly a sting in the tail, and Brand produced a strong kick after what was a tough week of racing, finishing the stage with a great second place. With bonus seconds on the line and some gaps in the peloton behind, Brand moved up one spot on GC to end the race in sixth place.
Juliette Labous started the day with a commanding lead in the best young rider classification and after navigating the stage safely, she won the classification, getting to take home the jersey after ten testing days of racing at the Giro Rosa.
