Joris Nieuwenhuis put in a strong performance in the opening round of the Superprestige Series to finish 9th in the elite race in Gieten.
Having started from further back in the field, Joris rode a measured race to move through the field and into the top ten in the second half of the race. He eventually finished just over two minutes behind the race winner.
After the race, Joris told us: “Again it was a pretty solid day. I had to start pretty far back in the bunch and moved up as fast as I could but just missed the front group. I had to then recover a bit and then tried to jump over.
“I got to a group from 12th to 8th and had to sprint for it but just didn’t have enough for 8th. Afterwards I’m pretty happy about the performance. Again it shows that I’m in good shape and that the top 10 is now in reach. It gives me confidence for the next races and I can hope to score some points so I can start more towards the front.”
