THE SCIENTISTS AND EXPERTS AT TEAM SUNWEB CONTINUOUSLY WORK TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF IT’S ATHLETES BOTH PHYSICALLY AND THROUGH THE EQUIPMENT USED BY THE TEAM.
The team challenge themselves in every aspect of their elite sports environment, including nutrition, training and equipment. Vigorous and thorough testing of the products used enable them to excel as a team and be the best that they can be. The research of the team’s experts and scientists is based on extensive data analysis. Team Sunweb work alongside its partners DSM and Delft University of Technology using their facilities and wind tunnels to ensure that their equipment, nutrition, race kit and race data analysis are as efficient and effective as possible.
The latest innovations are streamlined along with Team Sunweb’s partners and are closely aligned with the team’s overall performance plan and specific race circumstances. A great and high-end example of one of the new developments that will be introduced for the 2017 season are the new bikes. More specifically the latest Giant Defy Advanced SL, the endurance racing model from Giant, the world’s biggest bicycle manufacturer, to be used by the Team Sunweb’s men’s roster in the 2017 classics season.
The Giant Defy Advanced SL is built for the cobblestone classics and the most difficult days spent out on the bike. Built to perfectly handle tough terrain and challenging weather conditions it allows the team’s riders to tackle some of the calendar’s toughest racing conditions, with maximum comfort and handling. It’s key features include specific engineered road smoothing compliance, superior comfort and stiffness, and disc brake control, giving Team Sunweb a competitive advantage out on the road.
Team Sunweb’s Technical Expert Tom Davids said: “The frame is handcrafted with super-light Advanced SL composite that is specifically made to balance road-smoothing compliance with superior stiffness and pedalling efficiency. Each aspect of its tube shape, junction and composite layup technique is manufactured specifically for compliance, whilst maintaining its incredible stiffness-to-weight ratio.
“Compared to a traditional round seat post, the sleek D-Fuse integrated seat post increases rider comfort and adds the perfect amount of flex (up to 10mm) to dampen road vibrations and reduce rider fatigue. The tapered steerer tube system and massive downtube delivers best-in-class steering and frame stiffness vertical loads. The disc brake control includes 12mm front and rear thru-axles for superior braking power and consistency to give our riders more control in any race situation.”
