Joris Nieuwenhuis put in a strong performance to finish 7th at the Elite European Cyclocross Championships in the Netherlands.
The race covered nine laps round a technical circuit in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and as expected got off to a fast start. Joris, still starting from further back than the strongest, had to fight through the field to approach the top 10 and was spurred on by the noise from the home crowd to dig deep and finish strongly, just over 1’ down on the race winner.
After the race, Joris gave some feedback on his performance: “I had some good pair of legs today. After a pretty bad start I began to move up through the field slowly. When I saw and heard from the crowd that a top 10 was possible I just gave my best, and because we were racing in Netherlands the whole crowd was cheering for me which was great.”
