Joris Nieuwenhuis claims bronze medal at Dutch CX Championships

Dutch CX Champs

Today saw Rucphen host the Dutch cyclocross championships with a fast, albeit technical in parts, course awaiting the riders. Joris Nieuwenhuis was on the start line to represent Team Sunweb after recently returning from a training camp in Calpe.

Once starters orders were given and the tape dropped, the race began at an infernal pace with the bunch stretched thin. The high speeds continued and riders soon found themselves in small groups or riding solo once the elastic had snapped. Nieuwenhuis started promisingly and was in a battle for third place with Van Kessel before he managed to escape and move into third place outright. With riders scattered throughout the course, the running order stayed in the status quo for the second half of the race with Nieuwenhuis riding strongly to cement his place on the podium.

“I felt good today,” explained Nieuwenhuis at the finish. “I’m happy to have started this race with a good feeling after a hard training camp with the team. Now my focus is on the Worlds in a few weeks time, where I want to be in my best form and perform well at.”
