Team Sunweb announce Joris Nieuwenhuis’ CX program

With this weekend marking the opening of U23 Dutch CX champion and former U23 world title holder Joris Nieuwenhuis’ cyclo-cross season, Team Sunweb are pleased to announce his race program for 2018-2019. The 22-year-old Dutchman makes the step up from Development Team Sunweb to the WorldTour in 2019, and this cyclo-cross season will see him complete his first full program of racing in the elite category.

Speaking ahead of his season Joris said: “I’m really looking forward to my cross season starting this weekend. It’s usually the same guys competing for the podium but the rest of the top 10 is always changing; I really hope that I can be up there and ride for some good results. Sometimes it will be a bit harder to be in there, especially as my first full season riding in the elite, but I hope that I can be consistent throughout the season with a focus once again on the [national and world] championships. I’m currently feeling very good after last season, which was partly influenced by my leg injury, and I’ve done a few good road races recently. It’s always a challenging transition going into ‘cross but I am really motivated and look forward to the opening weekend.”

Team Sunweb coach Herman Snoeijink said: “We’ve had a really good training block with Joris and are well prepared for the upcoming season. This year Joris will ride his complete season with the elite and we’ll try to really make a connection between him and the top 10. Our focus will be similar to last year, the championships at the end of the season, and we have a well-balanced program to prepare him for some good results throughout.”
