Joris Nieuwenhuis finishes 13th at CX Worlds

Cyclo-cross World Championships

Joris Nieuwenhuis battled through a tough men’s elite cyclocross World Championships in Bogense, Denmark, today to finish just outside of the top 10 in 13th.

After losing some ground at the start, Joris, riding in the orange jersey of the Netherlands, was left fighting back through the groups as at the front the pace was lifted by the pre-race favourites. He persevered lap after lap on the technical course but couldn’t make it into the top placings by the finish.

After the race, Joris said: “I’m not that happy with today’s performance. It just wasn’t there today. I kept fighting until the end but it just didn’t feel right. Now it’s just about getting into the right mood again and thinking about the good races I did this year. My first year in the Elite category has had a lot of ups this year, so I’m not letting one performance take that feeling away.”

Joris, a former U23 CX World Champion, steps up to the WorldTour with Team Sunweb this season on the road at the end of this year’s cyclocross campaign.
