Lucinda Brand continued her strong run of cyclocross form today winning the Dutch championships and retaining her title from last season.
Lucinda held off strong competition in the fight for the coveted national champion’s jersey to finish solo, making it two national championships in two years.
After collecting her new jersey Lucinda told us: “It was a tough race today – the first two laps were hard but not full gas. I was able to have a look at how everybody in the field was. On the third lap I tried to accelerate on the first uphill running section followed by two short, steep climbs and I got a small break already. Marianne was able to follow so there was still the tough job to drop her.
“Over the next laps I kept the pressure high and I was just a bit stronger than her. When I got a small gap all I had to do was stay on the bike and not make any mistakes. I’m super happy to be keeping the national championships and am looking forward to wearing the jersey again.”
Team Sunweb coach Hans Timmermans said: “It was a great performance by Lucinda today, and it was a good battle as expected, but she was able to keep putting pressure on her competitors and in the end she was the strongest.”
