Joris Nieuwenhuis just missed out on a medal finishing fourth at the elite men’s Dutch national cyclocross championships today in Huijbergen.
Team Sunweb’s 22 year-old is a former junior and U23 national CX champion and has made a strong start to his campaign against the elite riders. Today however he felt that his performance was lacking following a period of sickness at the recent team camp in Spain.
Looking back at the race Joris said: “I’m not really happy with the result today. I did see it coming though as I was sick for the whole week in Calpe where I had some stomach problems. I was getting better in the last few days and I hoped that it would be better just in time for the race but it wasn’t – I couldn’t dig deep and the power was not there. Now I am focused on getting healthy again and then we can go full gas for the worlds.”
