As a breakaway went through to the finish, Team Sunweb set Søren Kragh Andersen for the sprint from the peloton to take 5th place at stage four of the Ster ZLM Toer.
After 40 kilometres of the fourth stage of the Ster ZLM Toer, the peloton had split into four groups on the road. Good positioning landed Team Sunweb with four riders inside the first group, including Søren Kragh Andersen. From the front group a seven man breakaway managed to go clear whilst Team Sunweb maintained position inside the first peloton. Further attacks saw two riders go clear and despite a furious chase from the peloton, they still had 20 seconds of their lead remaining when they reached one kilometre to go. The winner of the stage came from the breakaway, whilst Team Sunweb went on to chase a result from the peloton. It was Søren Kragh Andersen that took 5th place in the sprint for the team, a solid result after a tough day.
Team Sunweb coach Luke Roberts said: “It was a hard stage today. The bunch disintegrated over the climbs and we had four riders in the first group as two riders went clear. The two out front were really strong and unfortunately we couldn’t close the gap as we set up the final for Søren. We had hoped for more, but we can be happy with a top 5 placing.”
