Team Sunweb boost German core with the addition of Leon Heinschke to Development Program

Team Sunweb are delighted to announce the signing of Leon Heinschke to their Development Program from 2018 until the end of 2019.

The addition of the young and talented German boosts the strength of Team Sunweb’s Development Program, whilst expanding its German core further. Heinschke, 17 years old, is recognised as a talented time trialist and recently impressed by finishing 2nd in the GC at the Giro del Luigiana, a stage win at the GP General Patton, the German junior national time trial championships alongside some strong results in both mountains and general classification competitions across 2017.

Speaking of joining the team Heinschke said: “I am really looking forward to taking the next step and racing at U23 level with Team Sunweb. After a good year with some good results I feel like Team Sunweb is the perfect environment for me to progress and continue this momentum. I come from the same team as Nikias [Arndt], Leon [Rohde] and Max [Kanter] so already have experience riding with these guys and feel like I will fit in perfectly with the team.”

Team Sunweb coach Sebastian Deckert said: “After meeting and spending some time with Leon we can see that he is a perfect fit for our Development Program. The first step is to focus on his all-round development and to integrate him into the team structure and make the step up to U23 and elite racing.

“With Leon we have a strong all-rounder that is a good climber and fast in the hilly time trials. His character and performances show that he will be a valuable member of the team.”
