Team Sunweb’s U23 cyclo-cross world champion was unable to finish the world cup round in Zeven today, abandoning the race on it’s second lap due to problems with his left leg.

Inside the opening lap Joris led the field along with one other rider and on the second, his companion was able to open up a 15 second gap which saw Joris fall back through the top 10 riders. With the injury to his left leg persisting, Joris climbed off the bike on the race’s second lap to prevent any further damage.

Reactions

After the race Joris said: “I had the same problems with my leg last week and it seems that this week the issue is even worse. I felt really strong on the first lap and was ahead with another rider but as the race progressed the problem with my leg started again. I had to abandon because it just isn’t good and I don’t want to make the problem worse. I am confident that I am in good hands with the team and we will find out what the problem is so that I can start the recovery process.”
