Joris Nieuwenhuis takes 16th at Bogense World Cup

Team Sunweb’s U23 world cyclo-cross champion lined up for the world cup round in Bogense, Denmark today, finishing the race in 16th place.

With the course located right next to the sea, the conditions were extra challenging with multiple muddy sections set to tear the race apart. After a strong start staying clear of numerous crashes, Joris found himself positioned comfortably inside the top 10 riders. One rider clipped off the front which saw two riders chase solo, followed by Joris in the sixth chasing group. On the last lap Joris found himself just outside of the top 15, later finishing the day in 16th place.

Reactions

After the race Joris said: “Today wasn’t my day. I had some problems with my left leg that made me really struggle. The course was also really challenging, we don’t see many races like this. It wasn’t possible to hide my bad feelings this on a course like this. Looking ahead I hope to work on the problems with my leg and continue to build on my form.”
