The latest round of the UCI Women’s WorldTour saw each team go head-to-head in a team time trial over 42.5km in Sweden at the Crescent Vargarda World Cup race. As the final team crossed the line with the 4th fastest time.
Having already taken wins in the WorldTour this season, most recently at the RideLondon Classique, Team Sunweb came into the team time trial looking for a strong result, with the second of a pair of Vargarda races taking place on Sunday too. A tough, rolling route saw the team pushed hard all the way to the finish and after coming through the intermediate time checks in 4th, they eventually crossed the line in the same position, 1’23” down on the winners.
Sunday sees the riders tackle the Vargarda WorldTour road race, covering 152km – another opportunity to race for a strong result.
Team Sunweb coach Hans Timmermans commented after the finish: “We hoped for a spot on the podium today but I think it is clear what happened with strong team time trial teams against us today. We still have some improvement points to work on and I still having the feeling that a podium result is possible for the World Championships.”
