Stage 4 of the Tour of Denmark saw the riders go head-to-head against the clock over a 17.8km individual time trial where Team Sunweb’s Max Walscheid raced to seventh place. Going into the stage in third place overall, Lennard Hofstede raced to 23rd, slipping two spots to fifth on GC.
The rolling parcours, starting and finishing in Randers, saw a winning time of 20:57. Max crossed the line 58″ down, while teammate and compatriot Max Kanter raced home within the top 20 as well, finishing 18th.
Lennard now sits 1’11” down overall ahead of tomorrow’s final and decisive stage.
Team Sunweb coach Morten Bennekou told us after the stage: “Unfortunately Lennard did not have his best day today in the TT. He could not really go deep and also never found his rhythm. But, we are still looking for a good GC result as he’s fifth on GC before the last stage tomorrow. On the other hand Max did a pretty impressive performance today finishing seventh after a strong effort.”
