Joris Nieuwenhuis continues to climb the elite ranks as he takes 13th at today’s Superprestige Boom.
Team Sunweb’s U23 World cyclo-cross champion Joris Nieuwenhuis lined up at Superprestige Boom today, competing in the elite category to continue his development in the discipline.
After a powerful start, Joris maintained position inside the first five riders during the first three laps. Gaps began to form and Joris held position inside a large chasing group, hovering around 40 seconds behind the race leader. As one rider pushed on solo to take the victory, the chase group shattered and riders were scattered all over the parcours in attempt to reach the leader. Joris finished the day in 13th position, ahead of tomorrow’s World Cup in Koksijde where Joris will wear his rainbow jersey for the first time this cyclo-cross season.
After the race Joris commented: “Today I felt much better than the previous two races. I felt like my cornering and power was much better. After some bad luck last weekend I’m feeling much better today and really looking forward to tomorrow racing at Koksijde. It will be the first time racing in my rainbow jersey this year so it will be pretty special.”
Team Sunweb coach Herman Snoeijink added: “Joris had an excellent start and this continued throughout the whole race. His technique today was perfect and we can already see steps that he’s making in his development so early on in his CX season which is a great sign. To take 13th after just a few races in the elite category is great and a real boost for his morale.”
