ABOUT Ramon Sinkeldam

Ramon Sinkeldam is one of the core members of the team. He’s currently racing his sixth season, after joining the team in 2012. In 2011 he wore the Rabobank Continental Team colours and became Dutch U23 Road Race Champion. As a young cyclist Ramon didn’t win a lot of races, so his five victories as a professional are very special to him.

Ramon has developed as an all-rounder with a good sprint and he’s an important member of the teams lead-out train. “I want to make a difference in the final kilometres of important races. For a good lead-out, all of the riders need to be well suited. I’m looking forward to working on the lead-out with Michael Matthews and the other new sprinters in our team.”

During the last couple of years Sinkeldam has become more of a specialist in the spring classics. When you ask Ramon for his favourite race, his answer is clear. “Definitely Paris-Roubaix. It’s a legendary, difficult race. It makes you feel heroic when riding it.” Remembering winning the Under-23 race in 2011 and being part of the team when John Degenkolb won in 2015 is really special to him.

Three months after fracturing his shoulder during the teams car accident in January last year, Ramon finished 15th in Roubaix. He explains. “Paris-Roubaix differs from the other classics. To get a good result in Roubaix, you need to have more than good condition. It’s about all other kind of things; like a good technique on the cobble stones, riding efficiently and taking the right place in the final of the race.”

"A lead-out needs a good match of riders."
