ABOUT Clément Betouigt-Suire

During the World Junior Championship in Richmond in 2015 Betouigt-Suire was marginally beaten by the Austrian Felix Gall, his new teammate from Team Sunweb’s Development Team. In 2015 Clement also finished second at the juniors Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne. He is a Frenchman who shines in a Flemish spring race and is quite an exceptional rider.

Clement becoming a cyclist is part of his genes. His Grandpa Jacques participated in the Olympic Games of both Rome and Tokyo, finishing in 4th place. Clement still works every now and then in his grandfathers bike shop. As a young boy Clement and his nephew played as if they were real cyclists. “I always pretended to be Tom Boonen and raced against my nephew who played Philippe Gilbert. Its so cool that soon I might race against my own heroes”, said Clement, with a sparkle in his eyes.

This 18 year old Frenchman is one of the biggest French talents in one-day races. “I’m a sprinter and I mainly like flat courses. I have a lot of power, but I should race more tactically. Sometimes I’m too eager in races and I don’t always make the best choices. Hopefully this team can help me to learn how to improve my tactical skills.”

Like a lot of young riders, his dream is to win a stage in the Tour de France. Preferably in his hometown Bordeaux in front of his grandpa and other family and friends. “But if it’s anywhere else, no problem”, smiles the Frenchman.
