ABOUT Chris Hamilton

21 year old Australian youngster Hamilton is one of the new talents in the team. The former mountain biker showed his talent in 2016, when he raced to 14th overall at the Tour Down Under. He was the only non-professional in the top-30. Chris also won the youth classification at the Herald Sun Tour and the Australian U23 National Road Race Championships.

This is his first season as a professional racing in Europe. “I am very proud to join Team Sunweb. It was always my dream to become a professional cyclist. By signing a three-year contract, the team has shown its confidence in me. Giving me a steady base and the support of a very professional structure, will allow me to develop. The opportunities that I’ll have will enable me to grow in stage racing, which is especially exciting.”

Climbing is the speciality of this laid-back Aussie. He will do much of his training in the Spanish mountains of Girona, where he will live along with many other Australian cyclists. Hamilton has the potential to also target general classifications in the future.

In his first year as a professional the team will give him the opportunity to develop step-by-step. “I will race a broad program to test myself across different type of races. One of the races I’m especially looking forward to this year is the Tour of California. America is one of my favourite places to go, it’s a relaxed environment where I feel comfortable.”

"The professional structure of the team will allow me to develop."
