Starting as a DS in 1993, Arthur van Dongen worked for club and continental teams until 2008. In 2009, he joined Marianne Vos’ team before joining Rabobank Continental Team for five years in 2010. In 2016, Arthur joined Team Sunweb as a race coach.
During his career Arthur has witnessed countless victories and successes but his highlight moment was watching Sam Oomen’s win at the Tour de l’Ain after what he describes as ‘a final like a thriller’. Asked how other people would describe him, he hopes that they would say a passionate and motivated coach; something he strives to be. “I get a kick out of working with people and our efforts working well. Team work is important for my motivation.”
Away from the sport, you can find Arthur watching his step-son compete at bike races, or at one of his daughter’s hockey matches. He is interested in all types of sport, and enjoys politics and music. He describes himself as an easy going person but when it comes to a race, it’s full speed ahead. He likes to learn and develop himself all of the time and learn from those within the team. Cycling is his way of life, and he really enjoys his work with the team.
