ABOUT Albert Timmer

Timmer started his career as a mechanic in a bicycle shop. For as long as Albert can remember he has loved everything that’s related to cycling. And even after ten years as a pro he still has a great passion for the sport. In 2007 he became a professional cyclist at team Skil-Shimano. In his eleventh season, he’s one of the core members of the team. “As long as I can challenge myself by setting new goals and fulfilling new roles, I can keep myself motivated. I couldn’t do the same thing continually for ten years, I need changes in my focus and training. I’m glad that’s possible within this team.”

Albert fits perfectly within the teams culture and structure. He’s a very valuable member in the aspects of teamwork. He knows everything about the team and teaches the younger riders about how things work and he makes sure they feel comfortable. ”Friendship is very important in this team. There’s always a very good atmosphere. We all help each other and there are no big egos within the team.”

This cool-headed Dutchman is a very reliable and committed all-round rider. He has a great engine and can race an extensive program. Timmer has an important role in supporting the GC-riders, but he is also good in a breakaway, like in the Tour the France in 2009 and Giro in 2014. “My individual goal is to win a stage in a Grand Tour. I think the Giro offers me the best opportunities to win a stage.”

Albert became father of a little girl at the end of 2016. “I love cycling, but there’s no bigger win then my recent parenthood. I’m very happy with the things I’m doing right now. I don’t need many other things next to cycling. Being at home with my wife and daughter makes me calm and relaxed.”

"Friendship is very important in this team."
