The fourth stage of Olympia’s Tour routed riders around a 141 kilometre course through Hardenberg.

After 30 kilometres a group of four riders went clear, but after a short lead were swept up by the bunch. The break of the day came from four riders, who extended their lead out to three and a half minutes. Development Team Sunweb remained in the comforts of the peloton, battling their way through the day’s rainy terrain. As the race reached it’s pointy end the peloton began their efforts in bringing back the break. With two kilometres to the finish, the remnants of the break were passed by the peloton and teams began preparing for the upcoming bunch sprint. Best placed from Development Team Sunweb was young German Florian Stork, who finished the day in 13th place.

“The race was on from kilometre zero with attacks flying off the front from the go,” explained Florian. “There was a lot of wind and rain and echelons formed after the pace finally went down. Jarno and I tried our luck with attacks which unfortunately didn’t work out. The team of the race leader controlled the stage the guys brought me into position for the final and I managed to finish 13th.”

Team Sunweb coach Tom Veelers said: “Today was a wet, windy, fast day with a lot of splits during the race but eventually a bunch sprint decided the day. The guys did a good race communication-wise, staying in good position on the important moments. We can take some positioning points to improve in the coming stages.”
