Development Team Sunweb’s Nils Eekhoff finishes 13th on the opening stage of Olympia’s Tour. He sits 10th in the youth classification going into the 2nd stage.

Olympia’s Tour got underway this evening with a three kilometre prologue in Eelde. Development Team Sunweb had a strong start to the race with Nils Eekhoff finishing the day in 13th place after taking a time of five minutes and 15 seconds. Jarno Mobach and Florian Stork also placed well, just outside of the top 20 riders, with a time of 5 minutes and 19 seconds and 5 minutes and 20 seconds respectively.

After the stage Nils said: “Today was a tough prologue with some difficult corners that we knew we had to do perfectly because the time differences would be so small. When Florian started it began to rain and all of the riders afterwards had wet conditions to contend with. This meant that the corners were even more challenging. I gave it my all and feel like my shape is good so myself and the team are looking forward to the next few days to show what we’re capable of.”

Team Sunweb coach Tom Veelers said: “It was a strong ride from the whole team today with everyone up there inside the first half of the finishers. The rain half way through made it tough to ride through the corners on the course but the guys did a good job. Tomorrow we will explore the possibilities of a sprint with Nils and try to stay up in the GC.”
