Le Tour Savoie Mont Blanc closed with a 94 kilometre route around Moûters today, with four categorised climbs for riders to contend with. A fast and furious start saw a variety of different attacks, but the peloton were keen not to let anything go clear and all attempts were neutralised. On the day’s first climb, the peloton exploded into multiple groups. Marc Goos and Florian Stork managed to remain tucked safe inside the first peloton. A selection of GC favourites went clear from within the first group, with Marc initially able to follow. On the last climb Marc lost contact and slipped back to finish inside the first 30 riders. Development Team Sunweb finished safe inside the fragmented groups that followed the leading bunch.
“Today was a short but hard stage with four big climbs,” explained Team Sunweb coach Dirk Reuling. “From the beginning it was a really tough race. Marc and Florian were able to follow for a while but as the race exploded it became every guy on his own. Martin, Florian and Ruben had to let go of the peloton in the beginning and abandoned the race half way through, showing just how tough the stage was.”
