A strong ride from Jarno Mobach sees him finish third in the under 23 category at the opening stage of Tour de l’Ain today.
Development Team Sunweb took to the Tour de l’Ain start line this evening for the races opening prologue, a 3.8 kilometre route that took riders along relatively flat parcours through Bourg-en-Bresse. It was Jarno Mobach who took the highest time for the team, who after perfectly navigating his way around the course stopped the clock after 4 minutes and 40 seconds to finish 3rd in the U23 category. Another strong ride came from cyclo-cross world champion Joris Nieuwenhuis who finished the day with a time of 4 minutes and 43 seconds.
After the stage Nils said: “Today was a short, fast prologue with a technical section during the beginning of the course and then after that the roads were quite straight. The finishing times were all really close to each other, it was down to milliseconds between each rider. Each of us put our all into our rides to try to get a good result against a strong field.”
Team Sunweb coach Sebastian Deckert added: “Today was a really fast prologue. The team all put in really good rides and showed some good improvement from our last prologue. Jarno finished 3rd in the U23 category which was a great result. We’re all really motivated for the first road stage tomorrow.”
