After a few injuries within the team, Team Sunweb physician Anko Boelens gives an update on their recovery process.
Warren’s recovery is going well after suffering a broken pelvis in a crash at the Tour of Romandie. He is now walking well and has now restarted training on the rollers. The first signs are positive but it is still too soon to predict when he will return to racing. The most important and first focus is for Warren is to focus on regaining his strength, then we will look at his race programme.
After crashing out of the Giro d’Italia on stage 9 Wilco underwent successful surgery on his finger on Tuesday, 16th May. A plate was installed to stabilise and heal the fracture so he will need to take one weeks rest to heal the wound. After this he will need hand therapy to ensure he heals properly. As this is a re-fracture of an injury sustained at Strade Bianche earlier in the season, he will train only on the rollers for the first three weeks. In total, it is likely to be another five to six weeks before he will be racing again.
Molly is now focusing on getting in shape to get back into racing, which is brilliant. Her recovery has gone really well and she will soon be back in the peloton.
