After a week of great racing from the team, Ellen van Dijk secured the overall general classification win at the Healthy Ageing Tour today. Lucinda Brand added to the days celebrations, taking 2nd place on the stage.

The final stage of the Healthy Ageing Tour saw riders tasked with 8 laps of a 15.1km circuit. A breakaway of three went clear from the gun, taking a maximum lead of around three minutes. Team Sunweb were once again at the head of the bunch working to bring the leaders back, protecting Ellen van Dijk’s GC lead. Inside the last 10 kilometres the breakaway were caught and another move tried to go clear. Ellen and the team were riding at the front of bunch ensuring no GC contender could threaten the teams chance of victory. The day came down to a bunch sprint with Lucinda Brand taking 2nd place. Ellen finished comfortably inside the bunch securing her the overall victory.

After the win, Ellen said: “We are really happy to bring the yellow home. The team did an incredible job all week, everyone really sacrificed themselves for the jersey, it was unbelievable to see. It was also great to see our two young girls riding so well, this is their first stage race in the elite category and it was incredible to see them riding at the front all week. This jersey isn’t mine, it belongs to the whole team.”

Team Sunweb coach Adriaan Helmantel said: “We realised that today would be quite hard to control, so yesterday we made a few tactical decisions that made sure we were able to be in full control throughout today and go on to take the yellow jersey. These tactics payed off and I am really proud of the whole team. Overall it’s been a great week of racing and everyone really showed their commitment and dedication to the team. After all of the work that Ellen has done all spring for other riders earlier in the season it’s great that she is now able to get a reward from winning this stage race herself.”
