A good day for the team as Ellen van Dijk sprints to third place, adding four seconds onto her overall lead. Floortje Mackaij was also up there in the finale taking fourth place.

After a fast start to stage 3 of the Healthy Ageing Tour, a breakaway of three went clear with seven chasers joining them at the head of the race. As the echelons formed in the peloton, Team Sunweb were well represented in the front group with five riders including ,yellow jersey holder Ellen. Team Sunweb led the charge at the front of the bunch in order to bring back the leading 10. Inside the breakaway a lone leader attacked from the front inside the final 10km and it looked like the rider may be able to go through to the finish. A surge of pace came from the chasing peloton and the managed to reach the remaining 9 breakaway riders, eventually catching the lone leader in time for a sprint. Ellen sprinted to third adding four seconds to her overall lead, with Floortje following in 4th.

“I am happy to still be in the yellow jersey and the team worked hard for it today,” said Ellen after the stage. It wasn’t a super hard day for me although it we had to be super cautious due to the chance of echelons all day. There was a group ahead which was good for us and the girls stayed in control at the front closing the gap. In the end I could sprint to third which is good to get some extra seconds. It was a good day and the girls did a good job to keep me in yellow.”

Team Sunweb coach Adriaan Helmentel said: “It was a long day today with 155km of racing. It was the perfect situation for us with the three riders going clear at the beginning. Then 7 riders jumped across which wasn’t ideal, but we were still in control. In the final the last rider was caught and it was a bit hectic. Overall the girls rode well, especially the younger riders on the team. It was good for Ellen to finish third which means she adds a further four seconds onto her overall lead.”
