THE SCIENTISTS AND EXPERTS AT TEAM SUNWEB CONTINUOUSLY WORK TO IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF IT’S ATHLETES BOTH PHYSICALLY AND THROUGH THE EQUIPMENT USED BY THE TEAM.
The team challenge themselves in every aspect of their elite sports environment, including nutrition, training and equipment. Vigorous and thorough testing of the products used enable them to excel as a team and be the best that they can be. The research of the team’s experts and scientists is based on extensive data analysis. Team Sunweb work alongside its partners DSM and Delft University of Technology using their facilities and wind tunnels to ensure that their equipment, nutrition, race kit and race data analysis are as efficient and effective as possible.
The latest innovations are streamlined along with Team Sunweb’s partners and are closely aligned with the team’s overall performance plan and specific race circumstances. A great and high-end example are the time trial bikes for Team Sunweb’s Men’s Program, more specifically the latest Giant Trinity. The flagship time trial model from Giant, the world’s biggest bicycle manufacturer, to be ridden by the Team Sunweb’s men’s roster in the 2017 Tour de France.
“Our Giant Trinity’s use the most advanced and aerodynamic frame set. We complete the bike with PRO time trial wheels and a Shimano group-set.” said Tom Davids, Team Sunweb’s R&D Expert. “ The Trinity is made for fast courses, using extensive CFD analysis and dynamic wind tunnel testing, more than 250 different frame configurations were developed and tested before finalising this Trinity Advanced Pro frame-set.
“Giant’s Aero-System Shaping Technology is an approach to frame design that analyses the distinct airflow conditions each area of the frame encounters to maximise the performance of the frame as a cohesive unit. Every tube profile, position and junction has been engineered, developed and tested extensively to minimise drag and control airflow across all relevant yaw angles.
“Together with the PRO disc wheels and three spoke front wheels it’s the fastest Trinity ever and gives us the competitive advantage that we have been looking for.”
