Despite crosswinds that threatened the outcome of the stage some 40 kilometres from the finale, the third stage of the Tour of Denmark came back together for a bunch kick to the line with Max Kanter sprinting to 8th place.
A five rider breakaway went clear in the opening 30 kilometres of the stage, quickly opening up a four minute advantage over the peloton. The quintet stayed clear of the bunch, until accelerations in a crosswind section at around 45 kilometres to go saw their lead drastically brought down. The group were eventually brought back in time for a bunch kick to the line, where Max Kanter sprinted to 8th place.
Max said: “Today we had the 3rd stage which was mainly controlled by other teams. Towards the local lap we had a good position at first, but on the last lap we lost each other and ended up one step behind. Cees and me tried everything to come back, but we are a bit too late and got blocked. Then I tried to go around, but it was already to late to get a better result than 8th. We need to keep progressing in our lead-out for the last stage.”
