Mike Teunissen got his and Team Sunweb’s Critérium du Dauphiné campaign off to a strong start today, finishing 14th in the 6.6km prologue, 13 seconds down on the stage winner.
Mike raced around the fast course in a time of 7’38”, with teammate Martijn Tusveld finished 10 seconds further back. Tomorrow’s opening road stage takes the peloton 179km from Valence to Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert, with the parcours leaning towards the sprinters for a fast finish.
After the stage, Team Sunweb coach Aike Visbeek said: “Today we focused on Mike as we believed he could do a good result here. He came close but faded a bit towards the end of the TT, but the differences are very small. Technically he did a good TT. Our GC riders Laurens and Chris were suffering today as they and several other riders of the team got sick during the night. We will do our best to get everybody ready for tomorrow as we see chances in this stage.”
