In the second stage of Boucles De La Mayenne Development Rider Team Sunweb’s Max Kanter put in a strong sprint finish with the help of his teammates to come away with 10th place.
Stage 2 of the Boucles de la Mayenne got underway today with a tough 172km route departing from St Aignan de Couptrain and finishing in Pré-en-Pail. There were a number of attempted breaks from the very start of the race, but none would come to fruition until the 65km mark. It would be a break of four riders that would eventually stay away for the best part of the race gaining a 2’30” gap at its peak.
The breakaway were however caught with 20 kilometres left to go. Lots of mini-breaks were attempted during the final 20 stages, but it all came down to a bunch sprint. Within a hectic finish, Development Team Sunweb rider Max Kanter sprinted through to the line to take 10th place after a strong effort, and goes into tomorrow’s final stage 4th overall.
Team Sunweb Coach Sebastian Deckert said after the stage finish: “Today was the tough day that we expected. After the breakaway of 4 went away it was never a slow pace, and up front the breakaway was also strong. 50km before the final we had a long climb which was where the final really started and the bunch exploded. Although we were with less riders because of sickness, the boys did a good job in positioning and helping each other. In the end we had Max in the front group who finished 10th which is again a strong result after such a hard race. We’re happy with his 4th place on GC and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s last stage.”
