The action in Andalucia kicked off today with stage one of racing. The race was all go from it’s start, with Team Sunweb’s Georg Preidler making the days 7 man break. The break was eventually reeled back in by the peloton, although Georg’s efforts did not go unnoticed as he takes the lead in the Mountains competition. As the race entered the final 20km it was Warren Barguil’s time to shine. After a brilliant performance in the final of the race he sprinted to 10th position.
After the race Warren said: “I am satisfied with my race. I am not in top shape yet but I am really pleased that I still managed to stay close to the worlds best riders and take 10th place. I’m looking forward to the rest of the weeks racing.”
Team Coach Aike Visbeek said: “It was a good first race day. The plan was to have a rider in the break and we succeeded. With Georg we had a good climber so he went for the points on the mountains and he succeeded in taking the jersey. Warren performed well on the last climb and I am really happy with how he fought back on the decent to make the top 10.”
